Go to a Show!

Seattle has such a great art scene that it’s not surprising it should have a fabulous theater community as well. There are traveling productions as well as permanent stages that put on many shows a year. Whether you feel like a little Cirque du Soleil or a serious dramatic play, there should be something to suit any taste in the wonderful world of the THEATRE!

Speaking of Cirque du Soleil, “Amaluna” opens its run in Seattle on Jan. 31 and lasts until March 17. "Amaluna" tells the story of group of goddesses (who also happen to be very bendy) that are ruled by Queen Prospera. The main character is Prospera’s daughter who comes of age and falls in love. Ah, so romantic-just in time for Valentine’s Day! You’ll see all of their signature Cirque theatrics from the tight rope to aerial feats of strength and grace.

One of my all-time favourite romantic/tragic stories has to be "Romeo and Juliet." The Pacific Northwest Ballet is putting on their version of the story called, "Roméo et Juliette." It’s a beautiful fusion of ballet and modern dance and the simple sets and dramatic musical score will most likely bring a tear to your eye. The production is only showing from Feb. 2-10, so grab your ticket and bring some tissues!

You might want to keep your tissues handy should you decide to check out the Seattle Theatre Groups version of the tragic war story, "War Horse."  It’s an inspiring story of a boys love for his horse that is sent to battle during WWI, and his quest to bring him home. The horse in the story is brought to life by a huge puppet strong enough to be ridden by the actors in the play. Crazy cool, right? That alone might be worth the price of admission.  The show runs from February 13-24 at The Paramount Theatre.
